A 5’x5’ storage unit can be a tad small for anyone that wants to storage furniture, couches, TVs or most items other than boxes.
The 5’x5’ is still a bit small for a 1 bedroom apartment. It can’t really fit a couch so that makes this size unit out of the question. Unless every item you have is foldable, then we suggests going with the 10’x10’ unit.

The 5’x5’ storage unit is good for some light decluttering or to hold a couple stacks of boxes while you move. However, if you plan on storing a cough or any furniture it can be tough. The average couch is about 84” (7 foot) wide and 40” (3.3 foot) deep. That means if you wanted to put a cough in a 5’x5’ climate control storage unit then you would have to stand it up. While this is technically possible, it is clearly a bit of a headache. A Loveseat would be a bit easier to fit at an average of 52” (4.3 foot) wide and 40” (3.3 foot) deep, but still, it would take up almost the entire unit and not let you stack anything else. Simply put, if you want anything other than a walkin closet go bigger than a 5’x5’.
A 5x5 self storage unit is 5 feet wide and 5 feet long, totaling 25 square feet — comparable to a large closet. Many of our 5x5 storage units have 8-foot ceilings, providing roughly a total of 200 cubic feet of packing space. Check with your local Public Storage facility for exact dimensions on 5x5 units.
While some companies sell tiny storage “lockers”, that is not something that we currently offer. These lockers can range from standard locker sizes (like you have in high school). To slightly larger 3’x’3 storage lockers. These can store a box or a large duffel bag. Currently there are no storage locations in Malvern Arkansas that offer storage lockers.
These types of storage units are almost always outdoors, allowing you to back your car up to the storage unit directly. This is helpful if you want to unpack quickly and don’t want to lug your items inside. It is also helpful if you have larger items that are heavy to move over longer distances.
The contents of a large closet or a small room can fit within a 5x5 self storage unit. Think chairs, small desks, small bookcases, suitcases and lamps. 5x5 storage units are also a great option for seasonal storage of holiday decorations, sports equipment and clothing. If you need some added space for the contents of one normal size room, consider our 5x10 self storage units.
Unless its a Grom, we recommend a unit a bit bigger than a 5’x5’ if you plan on fitting any motorsport related items. A standard bicycle can fit though!
