Coverage Highlights
Our tenant protection plan, provided by SafeLease, guards against these risks:
Burglary
Must show forced entry and provide a police report.
Building Collapse
Includes weight of snow/ice or windstorm damage.
Vehicle/Boat/Trailer Damage
Covers stored or parked units within your space.
Fire
Protects against fire or smoke-related losses.
Water Damage & Mold
Excludes flood or surface water damage.
Rodent & Vermin
Limited coverage for infestations.
Vandalism
Includes malicious damage to your stored property.

Items Not Protected
Avoid storing these goods— they’re not covered under the plan:
- Cash, checks, or other negotiable instruments
- Animals, birds, fish, or perishable goods
- Firearms, ammunition, or explosives
- Furs, fine jewelry, and precious metals
- Contraband or illicit property
- Important documents, data, or media

Storing Tips
Prevent surprises by following these best practices:
Document & Photograph
Keep an updated inventory of everything you store.
Cover Your Items
Use drop cloths or plastic covers to shield items from dust or leaks.
Elevate Boxes
Use pallets or 2x4s to keep your property off the floor.
Use a Disk Lock
A cylinder or disk padlock reduces the risk of forced entry.
Store Electronics Securely
Place valuable electronics toward the back of the unit.
Exclude High-Risk Items
Don’t store goods that aren’t covered by the plan.
How to File a Claim
Once you notice damage or theft, follow these steps:
Take Photos
Clear images speed up claim processing.
Prevent Further Damage
Move or cover items so they remain safe.
Keep Lock & Damaged Property
We’ll need these for investigation.
Contact Police if Necessary
File a report for break-ins or vandalism.
Provide Proof of Value
Gather receipts or other evidence of loss.

While Onyx Self Storage may require some form of tenant protection, participation is optional. This plan may overlap with a homeowners or renters policy. Coverage is month-to-month and can be canceled any time.
